The Refuge of Hope – Pucallpa – Amazon Jungle
The Refuge of Hope is a center for children, youth, and adults with disabilities. Started in 1987 by a pastor who himself had polio, the Refuge of Hope quickly earned its name, providing hope through education and job training to marginalized individuals with disabilities. What began as a trade school for young adults has expanded to a church ministry, integrated elementary and high schools (for students with and without disabilities), and a vocational school. The Refuge of Hope has also recently opened its doors to at-risk children and youth, many of whom live at The Refuge until their situations at home can improve. Pastors, a few church families, and boarding students live on campus, creating a close-knit community that lives and serves together. |
